What is your Tire or Wheel Problem?

Problem Possible Cause Remedy/Repair
The car's front end vibrates at high speeds and the steering wheel shakes
  1. Wheels out of balance
  2. Front end needs aligning
  1. Have wheels balanced
  2. Have front end alignment checked
The car pulls to one side while cruising
  1. Unequal tire pressure (car will usually pull to the low side)
  2. Mismatched tires
  3. Front end needs aligning
  1. Check/adjust tire pressure
  2. Be sure tires are of the same type and size
  3. Have front end alignment checked
Abnormal, excessive, uneven, or premature tire wear
  1. Infrequent tire rotation
  2. Improper tire pressure
  3. Sudden stops/starts or high speed on curves
  4. Incorrect wheel size
  5. Wheels are out of balance
  6. Wheels are out of alignment
  1. Rotate tires more frequently to equalize wear
  2. Check/adjust pressure
  3. Correct driving habits
  4. Check if wheel and tire size are compatible

Tire squeals

The car's wheel(s) wobbles
  1. Loose wheel lug nuts
  2. Wheels out of balance
  3. Damaged wheel
  4. Wheels are out of alignment
  5. Worn or damaged ball joint
  6. Excessive play in the steering linkage (usually due to worn parts)
  7. Defective shock absorber
  1. Tighten wheel lug nuts
  2. Have tires balanced
  3. Raise car and spin the wheel. If the wheel is bent, it should be replaced
  4. Have wheel alignment checked/ adjusted
  5. Check ball joints
  6. Have steering linkage checked
  7. Check shock absorbers.
